30 Second Review: Too Human

Too Human as been in the making for ten years starting on the Playstation, than the Gamecube, and than ultimately, where it was finally released, the Xbox 360. The question is did ten years of development make for a good game?

The Good

Too human has a great setting, taking Norse mythology and turning it science fiction is wonderful. The story it's self is actually quite good, however the presentation it's self is a little flat.
Once you get into it, the game play is enjoyable, however I think the gameplay would have been better if it had more RPG-esque elements, and less "button mashing" (even though there is little button mashing, since the attacking is mainly done with the analog sticks).

The Bad

The cut scenes, graphics, and presentation in general are all disappointing. The cut scenes especially, which look jagged and awkward. I think this may because of how part way through development Silicon Knights switched from the Unreal engine to their own. Also, there is a lack of ambient sounds, weather you are in the Aesir's city, or in a dungeon, it really bothered me. It seemed really off.

Bottom line

The best way to decide if you should buy this game is to download the demo from the Xbox Marketplace, if you enjoy what you get in the demo, you won't be disappointed buying the game.

How could they improve the game? Work on the presentation, rather than using the same engine for the sequel use a more established engine, like the Gamebryo engine (since Unreal Engine it out of the picture), improve your story telling techniques. I think this game would benifet from taking elements from another game made in Canada, Mass Effect. The story telling and presentation in that game was so much better than Too Humans.
